  1. Does it cost anything to register with PowerRefine?

    Ans: Registration with PowerRefine is free and offered to all who wish to use Aptara's language editing service.

  2. After editing, will you forward the article to the journal of my choice?

    Ans: PowerRefine is limited to language editing only. When the editing is completed, we will notify you through an automated   e-mail. Then you can log back on to the site to download the edited file.

  3. I have authored my article in LaTeX. What guidelines do I follow for submitting source files?

    Ans: Please upload every file required for your LaTeX article to compile after editing. This includes all necessary class or style files, all artwork files called out, and any auxiliary files used in the preparation of your article in LaTeX. The site requires individual file uploads rather than an archive upload.

  4. Will the word count of supporting LaTeX files be counted in the cost estimate for LaTeX-authored articles?

    Ans: No. The PowerRefine cost estimate will include only the word count from the .tex file submitted. It will not reflect the auxiliary file word counts.

  5. When I try to upload a manuscript file, PowerRefine gives a message "Invalid file extension." How do I solve this problem?

    Ans: PowerRefine permits only Microsoft Word (.doc) and LaTeX (.tex) files. Apart from these file types, the following Tex support files are also permitted:

    .cls

    .sty

    .fd

    .aux

    .log

    .idx

    ind

    .bbl

    .bst

    .dvi

    .toc

    .lof

    .lot

    .blg

    .bib

  6. Can I cancel my order?

    Ans: No. Once you make the payment you cannot cancel the order.

  7. What are the available payment options?

    Ans: The PowerRefine website provides convenient online payment options by credit card. VISA, MasterCard, and American Express cards are accepted. The transaction currency is USD.   

  8. I was uploading a manuscript for language editing. I had to abort the process for some reason. How do I resume the submission for the same manuscript?

    Ans: You can continue the submission process by selecting the "Continue Incomplete Manuscript" option available under the "Submit Your Manuscript" link.

  9. Can I send you a CD-ROM containing my article?

    Ans: No. We accept files only through the PowerRefine website.

  10. Can I send you the manuscript files through e-mail?

    Ans: No. We accept the files only through the PowerRefine website.

  11. I received an e-mail in the past stating that the edited manuscript is available, but it is not appearing on the site now. How can I get the file?

    Ans: We keep the files available on the site for 20 days past notification to author via e-mail. Please contact the PowerRefine  help desk at powerrefine@aptaracorp.com to get your edited file. 

  12. I have lost the edited files from my system and now I need to download my refined manuscript files again. How do I do this?

    Ans: Please contact the PowerRefine help desk at powerrefine@aptaracorp.com We do not retain files more than 2 months.

  13. Can I upload my manuscript files in an archived zip format?

    Ans: PowerRefine does not support the uploading of files in any archived format.

  14. I got the message "session expired." What should I do?

    Ans: Session expires when you keep the site open without any activity for an extended period of time. This is the default behavior of any web-based application to protect your site from fraudsters. You need to log on to the site again.
